Hello friends,
This has been a chaotic week so far, and it's only Tuesday! First of all, I promised I'd tell you about Puppy Class, so here goes. Apparently Puppy Class is the same thing as.... OBEDIENCE SCHOOL! That's right, I went to a class with a bunch of other puppies and their owners, and we had to listen to our humans to get treats! I liked it because I got to meet other little doggies, but I was shy at first. I'm the only dog in my house, so I don't really get to spend much time with other canines. When I first walked into the classroom, I hid behind my humans. Allison and Caroline went to class with me, and they kept encouraging me to go play with the other puppies. My teacher's name is Carol and I like her because she seems friendly and she always has puppy treats in her pockets. During my first class, I learned "sit" and "watch." It's kind of annoying having to do what my people tell me, but it's worth it because I get rewarded when I listen. I heard Caroline and Allison talking about me and they said they think I'm the smartest puppy in the class! I guess I impressed them even though it was only my first class. I found out that we'll be going back this Saturday morning... and every Saturday morning for 2 months! If I'm good and I do all of my homework, I get to graduate from puppy class and be in a class with big dogs! At first I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of being an Obedience Class dog.. they kind of have a reputation of being nerdy, goody-two-shoes dogs... but now I'm starting to like the idea. I never realized I could make a human so happy just by sitting down. They really are easily amused...
So since my class my people have been practicing what I learned so I can show my teacher how well I can do "sit" and "watch" next time. I wonder what else I'm going to learn... maybe she'll teach me how to walk on my back legs and open the refrigerator?? That's what I'm really hoping for.
I convinced Allison to take some pictures of me today on her digital camera. Well, it's not like I could actually talk to her to persuade her, but I dropped some subtle clues by looking extra adorable and being my cute little self all morning. If I can figure out how to add pictures to this post (since I'm so "smart" I should be able to!), I'll show you how I look. I have to admit, I am quite a pretty little dog. I have to live up to my name! A Ruby is a precious gem, so I have to be one too!
After I had my picture taken I decided

Kibble.... AGAIN.
Good morning, I'm a bit frustrated today because I was looking forward to my breakfast when I smelled something yummy in the kitchen, but when I looked into my bowl I saw the same old usual puppy kibble while my humans got sticky buns! That's not fair.. I thought I was part of the family too?? Imagine if humans were expected to eat dry cereal for every meal every day... I bet they wouldn't be too happy about it.
And they wonder why I beg for their food! Maybe because it's always different and smells delicious and puppies get tired of the same thing every day!
I guess I shouldn't complain, though. I know that I'm lucky to have a family that cares about me and feeds me and pets me and all of that stuff. I've heard that there are lots of pets that are abandoned by their owners because they can't take care of them anymore, and I know I'd be so sad if that happened to me! Imagine, little Ruby all alone in the world with no humans to take care of her! That would be awful.
I suppose I can deal with my kibble... for now. I'll still try to see if I can snag a bit of yummy people food now and then though.
I was listening to my people yesterday and I heard Allison and Caroline talking about "Puppy Class." I don't know what that is, but I know it's got something to do with me since I'm the only puppy around here. They said it starts on Saturday, and if I have this whole calendar thing figured out as well as I think I do, that's tomorrow. I'm a little scared because I don't know what to expect. I hope it's something fun that we get to do together, but time will tell! As long as I have my people with me, I should be ok. They're pretty good at looking after me.
Oh, I almost forgot... today I barked! Twice! I sounded like a big dog and I was so proud of myself! You see, I was in the yard with Allison playing, and I decided that I was tired and I wanted to go back in the house but she still wanted to play. So, I gathered up my little puppy self and ran to the door, sat down, and barked! Allison looked surprised but I was just as surprised... I didn't know I had such a beautiful voice!
All of this typing has me tired, so I think it's time for a nap. I have to go find Allison so I can lay on her feet. That's a little trick I have so that I know where she is at all times and she can't get up and walk away without me knowing. Clever, huh? I told you puppies are smart!
I'll let you know when I find out what Puppy Class is!

Hi everyone!
Well, since this is my very first post, I guess I should introduce myself, huh? My name is Ruby and I am a 10 week-old Golden Retriever puppy living in Southeastern Pennsylvania in the United States. You might be surprised that this blog belongs to a dog, but I think you'd be surprised how many websites are actually created and maintained by cuddly canines like me (ever hear of Google?). We're a lot smarter than some humans think, but since I'm still a little puppy, I know that I have a lot to learn about living with humans!
I better learn quick, because I live with 5 goofy people! Four of them are girls like me, and their names are Caroline, Allison, and Kristen. Kristen is the oldest and I don't know her very well, except I can always tell when she's in the house because she wears a lot of smelly perfume. The middle one is Allison and she spends the most time with me while Caroline is at school. I'm not sure how long people live, but I heard Allison talking about how she's "twunny," so I'll have to figure out how old that is.
Caroline is my owner, and from what I can tell, I was a present for her. She picked my name, so she must be pretty important around here. She's the youngest but she's a lot bigger than me, just like the rest of my human family. I wonder if I'll ever grow to be as tall as they are?
My human Daddy is the only boy in the house except for the cat. I get so happy when he pets me because he's the big dog around here! My human mommy took care of me all by herself for the first week that I lived here, because Allison wasn't "home from callidge" yet, and I was too tiny to be alone. She's really nice and I love stealing her slippers from their bedroom.
I mentioned the cat, didn't I? Well, I can't figure that guy out. His name is Smidge and he's no fun at all! My humans keep us apart because he doesn't really like doggies (weird, I know), but when I do see him I get all excited because I want to play with him! We're just about the same size, and he would make a perfect litter mate. Unfortunately for me, he just doesn't seem interested and he runs away when I come too near. Maybe someday we can be friends.
I want to tell you more about me and my life here, but Allison is calling me for my lunch so I better go. Don't worry! Dogs like me are very loyal, so I promise I'll be back soon! I wonder what I'm having for lunch...?
